Deniliquin farmer Brian Willis (pictured) has claimed the inaugural Best Local Farm Truck category at the Deniliquin Truck Show & Industry Expo.
The category, one of two introduced this year, was specifically for trucks used on the farm and built before 1990.
Truck Show vice president John Creenaune said the category was about celebrating one of the main uses for trucks in the local area.
Mr Willis turned up to the Truck Show on Saturday with his family and his 1989 Ford LTL 9000.
‘‘The truck is still in use and it’s road trains rated,’’ Brian said.
‘‘It’s just a normal farm truck we use for harvest.
‘‘We’ve had this one since the early 2000s, and it was bought second hand to replace a 1418 Mercedes Benz.’’
Brian said the benefit of having his own truck on the farm is the difference it makes to output costs associated with contractor drivers to deliver his grain.
The other new category introduced for this year’s truck show was the Best European Truck.
