Memorial added to schedule
A third day will be added to the Deniliquin Truck Show and Industry Expo schedule this year, to specifically pay tribute to locals from the industry who have passed away.
A memorial service will be held following the main events, at 11am on Sunday, September 10.
It will be held at the Davidson St rest stop in north Deniliquin, where the Wall of Fame monument doubles as a memorial wall.
Families are invited to apply to have their loved ones added to the wall each year, which will be completed at their own cost.
Deniliquin Truck Show and Industry Expo committee president Leesa Muir said the memorial service would end the weekend of activities.
‘‘We wanted to do something to pay tribute to those in the industry no longer with us, and we thought adding a memorial service event to the truck show weekend would be fitting,’’ she said.
‘‘We’ll have a service at the memorial in Davidson St, Deniliquin from 11am on the Sunday.
Standing more than 3m high and 7m wide, the Wall of Fame and memorial structure is made of timber sleepers and steel. Laser cut sheet metal depicting two local trucks sits atop the ornate memorial.
Plaques recognising annual Wall of Fame inductees are attached to the front of the memorial, and tributes will appear on the other side.
Ms Muir said anyone wishing to enquire about having a family member included on the memorial wall should email firstname.lastname@example.org.
